Hmm. Firstly I have to comment that flute part in first minute. It is quite cool. I especially like when that kind of jazzy build up changes and becomes slower and weaker. The whole solo reaches smooth tone. That's what I like about jazz - those unexpected tempo shift.

Now about 'Clap Your Hands'. I was expecting something strictly modern and - surprisingly you surprised me - it's quite traditional attitude to jazz. But of course there is that little modern stuff - scratching. Maybe I'm not a big fan of such things but in this song DJ's part are really funny and gives a lot of pleasure. Even 'solo' wasn't as boring as I expected it to be.

Of course the strongest advantage of the whole song is vocal. I do appreciate Jessica. Her voice is amazing. I'd love to hear her screaming or singing more agressive vocal parts.

As a guitarist I paid a lot of my attention to some guitars' licks. I also felt in love in bass - line. That groove was great.

Wind instruments and drums didn't astonish me on any way. Simple rhythm and easy licks. Nothing special.
But it doesn't mean that the whole song is unlistenable. I enjoyed it ;)

While walking up and down the school corridor at your prom I wondered... will we - here in zdunska wola - EVER get a chance to have a party like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PgQJWLnKzU AND ENJOY IT. Palm Springs - The Do-Over - regular and free.
... and i don't mean the dj only - I MEAN THE PEOPLE!!!

No. Because for most of peopl some demands must be granted. The most important is alcohol, especially in quantity which make them swaying and falling out. Different mentality.
In clubs there must be always even a couple of people who launch a fight and the crowd which will apllaud them. Don't also expect that such people are minority. NO! Having fun on party is less attractive than having risk. Sad but true.

To be honest, personally I would never feel good on the party that video was on. Big crowd, lack of air, lot of sweat. Wouldn't it be nicer to feel the vibe of dense small pub wherein blues is all around and nameless guys are playing incredible things?
One man's meat is another man's poison but sometimes it just makes me curious. How sharing emotions with people by musicians can be made in such different ways? Listening to the guitars weeping out of tune and swaying to the rhythm of hi tech modern turntables give people similar emotions and entertain a lot.
It's a kind of magic.

Oh yes it would definitely be nicer to have a night out in one of many jazz clubs in Manhattan, NY or New Orleans where REAL people play for real audience. No MASK. I remember a gig in Lodz for as many as 200 people where Homo Twist played their blues. Quite spmoky a place to be honest.
I pasted the link to show how good audience can feel the vibe of an artist (whatever the music, didn't mean the bouncing tits :)) - and it was a really small party (compare U2).
Here's an example where audience came out of space (the ladies in front) and didn't quite catch anything: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg-8Eunbk6Q&feature=related. Creativity makes diversity

Hello!

I've been searching some inspiration for some 'true-norwegian-black-metal riffs' in modern music and when I found myself totally lost I recalled one site that I considered the best - and what's more important trustworthy source of such knowledge (yeah I'm still lazy and didn't even try to use last.fm or youtube).
So three yeas I visit your blog for tha last time I find those 'scratchy trumpets' and 3 years old chat about music. Wow, lot of time.
I started to think about what we wrote then, and realized that that blog, that discussion (and many more on classes) thought me how to tolerate different music tastes and ways of expressing the music.
Through those 6 years (3 at Dąbek, 3 at Uni) that noble phrase "creativity makes diversity" has become (maybe not literally)kind of my motto in feeling the music.

I'm writing that comment with hope that you'll read it because I think that your teaching style was really improving - both English classes and hip-hop classes :)and I'm just wondering if you still put those "learn-the-culture-guys" lessons in your "syllabus"
If you do, that's really good, if you don't, trust me you should relaunch that 'cause it's really improving ;)

Regards,
Maciek

Wow, as I don't normally expect much, I didn't expect any comments from you guys either. I assumed you'd gone, that's it. But its cool to keep in touch from time to time, ain't it? The more so when people share same hobbies...
Its great to read some comments from such time perspective - it gives value. It took you so much time to spit a few sentences but its a great feeling, you bet. Worth waiting...

No such things are never in my syllabus - they are beyond planning, its a spontanuous thing to use such things in class, but I still do it. Your feedback proves just that, even if youre the only one.

Im putting this here cos theres nowhere else I can find you - I'll try last.fm if you still there. Hope you come again and read it. Will be happy to drop you a few lines - even in Polish :) - but need to find a platform. I'm on facebook as SMARTSCHOOL2005 - there's a link on the blog.
